3M™ 231 Masking Tape is a 7.6 mil crepe paper-backed tape with a rubber adhesive in a 1-inch width by 60-yard length. The crepe backing conforms to irregular and contoured surfaces, while the rubber adhesive delivers firm initial tack and withstands temperatures up to 300°F for up to 30 minutes — suitable for spray painting, powder coating, and general industrial masking.

This tape performs across light manufacturing, automotive finishing, HVAC fabrication, and maintenance applications where solvent exposure or moisture contact is likely. It holds firmly against powder-coated and stainless steel surfaces during application, then releases cleanly to protect finished work when removed.
